'wats in the name'

The name is an identity.
'what is in the name' is a quote from a legend. But the name is considered the most important today. Well it is not only considered of prime importance amongst living objects but also among the non-living objects.
Yes, and we all call 'em brands.
Ok, ok this aint any blog against or in support of any brands or its makers. And ofcorse this blogger is also like everybody else who believes 'bigger the name (brand), better..' (this is jus my view to the whole 'branding' thing.)
Basically its jus the concept of building a brand and sustaining its position in this huge market, fighting out ways to the apex of the global market, that kinda stimulates my brain.

"a name, sign or symbol used to identify items or services of the seller(s) and to differentiate them from goods of competitors." is the dictionary meaning of brand.
Its interesting how people jus get attached to a name, be it a person or an object. For instance if i like the name maya (for some reason) then I have a certain things attached to it, maybe good or bad...but I have already made a kinda personality for that name in my mind.
Its the same way for brands, everybody has the image of a certain brand in the mind the way it is exposed. Imagine its such a responsibility and of course a creative job to create an identity (as good as nurturing a baby), a challenging job i say - big bucks dont come easy afterall.

Im no marketing/sales/branding expert but an inquisitive common man. I have gathered some information from various sources that has helped me to have my own angle to this interesting subject.

the name game

hi I am Chelaram....Hey I am Bhagwanprasad...Hello I am Winky
:-have ever wondered why cant u choose ur name????
Today a person on this planet can do anything that pleases himself. Except name himself !!!(unless u go to some govt office a million times and fill some half-a-million forms n shit...)
I find this game very interesting. The parents/relatives take the charge to name the new entrant in the family...then wen he/she grows up they do the same to the next one... the cycle goes on. So except for the one being named evrybody else has a favourite name to be given(mostly the names of one's favourite actor/actress) .
The chinese way of naming is the best i say...though i have heard of two rituals...donno which one exactly is followed. One: some kind of noise is made by throwing an utensil or something and then whichevr kind of sound is heard becomes the name of the debutante, like 'Tung Tan Shang' or 'Ting Ming Tung'...Two: whichever kind of sound is first made by the new born (mumbling) is then adapted into a name, like 'Hatsu Mu' or 'Chi Yu Yan'...by this atleast the kid will not have a chance to blame anyone for having a wierd name.
For some people the NAME is a big issue. At times they get lunatic if their name is pronounced in a wierd manner (remember Chandler Bing, he hates his lastname).
Thankgod & my family, i dont get embarassed by my name, though my last name is very unique (read very wierd)...Well pronouncing it a lil stylishly helps.
Its interesting how ur name gets attached to ur personality. Over the time it is the name by which u r known and not ur face. Name becomes the sole identity.

oh india....my india!!

Travelling in BEST buses is 'a pain in the ass'....is the reaction of most of the commuters due to the traffic conditions of mumbai. But i say some of the best ideas and visuals occur to me only when im having the pathetic ride to my workplace. At times it turns out to be a entertaining ride...people fighting, men and sometimes women spitting, kids dicussing their most hated professor, etc...Its true, sometimes i have to switch off my radio to listen to these things as they seem to be more entertaining.
This was one of the ironic view tat i came across a few days back....

for people who commit the biggest crime in india i.e. spitting.

adomania

heyyy Im back.
NO! not from any exotic holiday!! I have been here and right here...
Well life's been all upside down and im still kinda struggling to straighten it. but thats ok.....im sure those are one of the usual chores that everybody has to do.
I have found a very new way of refreshing my mind....actually this also falls into my profession i.e. ideation. This used to be one of my favourite thing to do in college years....its about connecting. Connecting anything to everything...generating ideas randomly. I mean take any situation and connect it with some product or anything....i mean it can be hilarious if the product is completely irrelevant....u will knw if u r this crazy advertising buff!!! Believe me its very interesting. Ur mind keeps running...it will never bore u.

i have tried out on something in the process... and wud really appreciate if i cud get some feedback.
